Dolph Ziggler and Lana Reunite Before SummerSlam and They’re Still Awful Together

For those that haven’t been following the program closely, Rusev and Lana were two of the WWE’s most heavily promoted personalities in 2014. Rusev was the Ivan Drago-style stoic, monstrous, Russian superman, who demolished any puny American that dared to cross his path. Lana was his hot girlfriend and mouthpiece, advocating for him and letting the capitalist pigs know that he is their superior in every way.

Things went sour, however, during Rusev’s rivalry with notorious career-ruiner John Cena. Cena took Rusev’s United States Championship in March and defeated him twice more, with Lana’s presence playing a part in each of his losses. This resulted in a bitter breakup, with Lana quickly turning to Dolph (who is kind of implied to be a womanizer…but not too much since this is still the PG era) in order to make Rusev jealous.

This angle started going sideways, however, once a fourth player was added; Rusev’s rebound girl (and oft-forgotten Diva) Summer Rae. Summer and Rusev quickly gelled on-screen and synergized in a big way on social media. Their awkward romance resonated with fans and, while the WWE clearly wanted Rusev to be the villain, the wacky antics and memorable moments were too endearing to ignore.
