Dolph Ziggler and Lana Reunite Before SummerSlam and They’re Still Awful Together

Wrestling

While Rusev and Summer were busy becoming popular, Ziggler disappeared due to a kayfabe injury and Lana was left to spin her wheels for weeks. Ziggler returned to huge applause on Monday, but Lana has clearly become the odd lady out.

Rusev and Ziggler will have a match at SummerSlam that could steal the show. Rusev and Summer Rae have a hilarious gimmick that can be sustained for months. Lana, however, has nowhere to go. While the WWE was widely rumored to have a major promotion in line for Lana, with some saying she was set to become the female face of the company, they have reportedly hit the “cancel” button and that leaves her as little more than a prop for Ziggler.

That’s not a great thing, obviously. Ziggler, in spite of the layoff, is on strong footing in his career. While a return to the main event picture probably isn’t in the cards, he stands on his own and is given regular TV time. He doesn’t need Lana and, frankly, that’s kind of a waste of her solid mic work.

There is a decent chance the WWE does something desperate to make the crowd turn on Rusev. Here’s hoping that, for once, the WWE gets out of its own way and just lets one of their wrestlers run with their sudden popularity (we all know they won’t, though).
