McMahon didn’t meet his father until he was 12 years old. While the younger Vince would lobby McMahon, Sr. to get into the family business, he was not too keen on his son joining the company, at the time a regional promotion that functioned largely inside New England. Instead, McMahon wanted his son to be a lawyer, an idea he scoffs at today.
Eventually, he would convince his father to let him into the business, working at a show in Bangor, Maine. The show went smoothly enough that he would be accepted into the company. After, he would join the broadcast team as a commentator, and would buy out the company in 1982.
