UFC Averts Free Agent Crisis By Re-Signing Two Big Names

While the UFC lost Ben Henderson, they managed to bring back Alistair Overeem and Aljamain Sterling. All three of those fighters share the same management team and were huge potential gets for Bellator or other MMA promotions.

Overeem is a familiar name to any longtime MMA fan. A former Pride fighter that was long rumored to be using PEDs, he answered almost every out-of-the-cage question with in-cage success. He hit a rough patch in 2013-2014 when he lost to Antonio Silva, Travis Browne and Ben Rothwell, but he bounced back with three straight wins over Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson and Junior dos Santos.

Sterling isn’t as big a name as Overeem, but he’s probably the best pound-for-pound fighter mentioned in this article. He is undefeated in his career to this point, and has dominated two top-10 names in his two most recent fights. Just as importantly, he is a young, smart fighter in an old, tired division, and is basically guaranteed to be a champion at some point in the future.

Unfortunately, neither man revealed any details about their contract such as length or financials, but both teased upcoming fights. You can find out what’s probably next for them on the next page.
