Colter labeled Cena as a “divider” and wanted the United States championship to be something to unite fans under. While that isn’t necessarily a huge departure from the norm for Colter, what came as a surprise was that he wasn’t introducing either of his milky-skinned former clients. While Colter’s original character was a Glenn Beck-style anti-immigrant zealot, Colter came out to introduce his new client…FREAKING ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Yes, the very same Alberto Del Rio who is the AAA champion, top star of Lucha Underground and the indie wrestling scene’s foremost prima donna. This likely ends Del Rio’s career with outside promotions, at least for the time being, and also represents a major shift for the returning Colter.
While the surprise return of Del Rio will likely have people talking, as will his winning the title in his return, the match itself was generally ho-hum. Not only that, but the ending sat very, very poorly with many.
