Of course, this kind of absurd uptick isn’t unexpected. The UFC has been brutalized over the last year when it comes to drug scandals. From Jon Jones’ surprise cocaine use (which was followed by his alleged hit-and-run incident) to Anderson Silva’s failed test for steroids to Nick Diaz LOVING WEED, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has been working overtime over the last 12 months.
The UFC promised some major changes, and are certainly looking to deliver on those.
Whether or not that is a good thing, however, is up for debate. Obviously, fighters are radically underpaid as it is. The Reebok deal is basically an elaborate scam to try and force an athlete’s entire existence to revolve around fighting and the UFC coming just shy of putting a GPS implant into their back doesn’t help alleviate that perception.
This will likely end up being a huge source of discontent among the UFC’s ranks, so make sure to watch out for more news on it.
