Thai Criminals Are Released Early If They Participate In Kick Boxing Matches Against Foreigners

Weird

In the 1770s, a Thai fighter named Nai Khanomtom got in trouble and wound up in a Burmese prison. Not the first place you’d want to be, to say the least. He was given the opportunity to fight 9 different Burmese champs to show off for the king, and he beat them all up. The king was so impressed with the performance that he let Nai Khanomtom go free, and also gave him two wives for his troubles.

The Thai prisoners win most of the fights that take place at Prison Fight, but every now and then a foreigner manages to scrape out a W. Beating a Thai in Thailand doesn’t earn you the ire of the crowd, they actually have a lot of respect for anyone that can come and beat them at their own game. Ramon Dekkers is a prime example, as is John Wayne Parr.
