Pic: Look at the Nastiest Injury in UFC History

MMA

UFC Fight Night 81 was a pretty good night of fights.

Dominick Cruz completed one of the greatest comeback stories in sports history by retaking the UFC bantamweight title after a four-year stretch of devastating injuries. Eddie Alvarez shook up the lightweight division by scoring a fairly decisive win over Anthony Pettis, whose title reign feels like a distant memory.

HE IS BACK, FOLKS! THESE DAYS ARE BACK!

When I woke up this morning, though, there was just one vivid memory that remains from last night…Matt Mitrione’s gross, mangled face after his fight with Travis Browne.

Yes, the lone heavyweight bout at Fight Night 81 featured one of the most gruesome injuries in recent MMA memory. While Mitrione did a decent of hanging with the top-10 heavyweight, he ate a massive right hand in the third round that instantly swelled his eye shut…and then kept swelling. And then swelled some more.

Here's a "before" shot of Mitrione, taken by Sherdog.com.

By the end of the fight, Mitrione’s eyelid somehow transformed into a purple golfball. Oh, and his shoulder was popping out of his skin after being dislocated! That also happened!
