As you may have seen in our recap of the fight, Garcia managed to defeat Tapa via “backhand pimp slap.” You can see the video here:
While the performance certainly didn’t put Garcia onto the short list for top pound-for-pound fighters, she managed to score a big in in her debut with a hard backfist. Unfortunately, it’s anyone’s guess where she goes from here.
Garcia’s size works for her in the ring and on the mat, but works against her from a career perspective. While she’s an incredibly skilled BJJ player, there just plain aren’t very many women in combat sports that weigh over 200 pounds.
Rizin FF has another show scheduled for April, and if the Japanese organization can find another opponent for her, she may pop up there. Otherwise, expect her to show back up in BJJ competitions.
