Piper has had a profound influence on professional wrestling and even martial arts. Piper was trained by world-famous Judoka “Judo” Gene LeBell, who introduced him to the now-famous UFC champion, Ronda Rousey. Rousey pays homage to him in her nickname, “Rowdy.” She is set to face Bethe Correia Saturday at UFC 190.
Update:
TMZ.com is now reporting that his death was due to cardiac arrest while he was sleeping. TMZ actually interviewed him just a week earlier to discuss his thoughts on the controversy surrounding Hulk Hogan.
