Fighters Snapping Their Leg Like Anderson Silva Happens More Often Than You’d Think

Anderson Silva has done a lot for MMA, including introducing a lot of people to something that actually happens a lot more often than you might realize. The infamous leg snap of Silva wasn’t the first one, it wasn’t even the first one in the UFC. Sometimes they happen due to checked kicks like in Silva’s case, othertimes it can be a nasty submission or even just landing on it the wrong way during a grapple. Here’s a look at some of the nastiest leg snaps in combat sports history.

Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman

The leg snap heard ’round the world, and the inspiration for this list. This was by far the craziest leg snap for a multitude of reasons. It was Anderson’s first time stepping into the Octagon as the challenger in ages, it was his chance to prove the first loss to Weidman was a lucky punch, it was Anderson using the one technique that was effective during their first fight, in front of a massive audience.

Corey Hill vs. Dale Hartt

Before Anderson Silva, there was Corey Hill. Corey recently passed away, we send our condolences to his family. RIP, brave warrior.

Gokhan Saki vs. Tyrone Spong

Tyrone Spong is one of the best kickboxers on the planet but he’s been out since April 2014 when this injury took place at Glory 15.

Magomed Malikov vs. Brett Rogers

Brian Jones Jr. vs Justin Lee Fowler

This one wasn’t a checked kick, it was just a fighter who was slammed awkwardly and ended up landing on his leg before it buckled from beneath him.

Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Goran Jettingstad

Like the previous one, this one isn’t from a kick either but it’s still a leg getting absolutely demolished by Minowaman. It’s hard to see exactly what happens from this footage, but welcome to the fight game, Goran. This is Goran Jettingstad’s was first fight ever.

Marcos “Rino” Souza vs. Cristian Goetz

What’s there to say, really? Here’s another brutal leg snap that’s going to have you appreciating the fact that your ankle is intact.
