Holly Holm will not be facing Ronda Rousey. She will, in fact, be facing former Strikeforce champ and Rousey Archenemy Miesha Tate.
That’s a big surprise in a few different ways. First, the UFC executives (Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta) were seemingly dead-set on a Holm vs. Rousey 2 going down. While it initially seemed like Holm was going to be forced to wait, however, the UFC pulled the trigger on a Holm vs. Tate.
This is a very strong piece of matchmaking by the UFC, though. Tate is actually one of the bigger names in the UFC today, and has a winning streak long enough to justify a crack at the belt. Not only that but should Tate beat Holm, she still offers an interesting opponent for Rousey’s likely return for the belt.
So how about McGregor? Well, his UFC 197 fight is actually even more interesting…
