If you thought grandma’s opponent was going to pull any punches…well, you were mistaken.
Dettman goes after her right out of the gate and has a kick caught, forcing her back to the fence. Perez, despite having a solid kickboxing background, is still 68 years old, and is basically just pushed aside by Dettman and then gets hammered by a bunch of punches before being taken down. Dettman tries to get a north-south choke in, but decides she’d rather just jump into mount and punch grammy’s face in.
Thank Baby Jesus, she lived through that beating. The promoter, commission and fighter all dodged a bullet there.
Thankfully, the ref stopped the fight before much damage could be done and Perez quickly got back to her feet after the fight ended. It doesn’t seem like Perez got seriously hurt, which was a serious concern. Still, this was a dumb, dumb thing for the promoter to do. Hopefully we don’t see similar fights happen again…
But we all know that they will.
