Controversial choice. Putin could very well go down in history as one of the last true real-life Bond villains. He’s pulled some absolute gangster moves during his career. Obviously we don’t condone any of the bad things he’s done, but that doesn’t exclude him either.
He rose from having nothing at all, to being the leader of the largest country in the world in one of the most dangerous and unforgiving cultures. He survived the fall of the USSR as a KGB agent, and literally changed the way that leaders were appointed in Russia to ensure that he stayed in control.
He practices martial arts, he’s a billionaire with tons of billionaire friends, and he can basically do whatever he wants.
There’s a story about a time when Putin and Obama were staying in the same hotel at a summit of world leaders, and due to a scheduling conflict they both wanted to use the hotel’s gym at the same time. Instead of fighting over the machines, Putin said no problem and walked out back and dove in the lake instead. He’s cultivated an image of true manliness that makes all other world leaders look like sissies.
