Holm, no question, is one of the worst stylistic matchups in the game for Ronda. There’s no getting around that! Holm is at her best when she she is far away from her opponent, and she knows how to stay there. Ronda Rousey is at her best when she is all over her opponent, and she isn’t necessarily all that great at getting there.
If Rousey can get in close on you, that’s probably it.
Couture was a bit off with his assessment, though. To say Rousey tried to stand and bang with Holm is inaccurate. Rousey didn’t try to box with Holm, she tried to work her judo against Holm, but couldn’t hold her for any length of time or land any throws, which forced her into chasing Holm around the Octagon.
Was Rousey over-confident in her striking? Probably! When has any fighter ever not been over-confident in their skills? Junior dos Santos wants to box Tyson Fury!
The problem for Rousey, though, was that Rousey couldn’t make the most of her opportunities, while Holm could.
