Stewart claimed the reason was Cena being in position to tie Ric Flair’s record number of title reigns. The legendary leader of the Four Horsemen has 16 World Championships to his name, and a win over Rollins at SummerSlam would have seen Cena tie that record. 
Flair, who was in attendance for the show, was quick to come out and wag his finger at Stewart, saying he wouldn’t have minded Cena breaking his record, as he respects the Face That Runs the Place enough that he feels he has earned it. Cena proceeded to join the two in-ring, and tore into Stewart before delivering an AA.

There was a subtle hint that the WWE might be moving in the direction of a heel turn for Cena, as he thumbed his nose as criticism from Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, and vowed revenge against Rollins…but another former United States champion ended any discussion of a rematch shortly thereafter.
