While the Johnson choke in the photo is flattening the windpipe, Rogan’s choke on the radio host applied pressure to the carotid arteries, which prevents blood from flowing to the brain. The result? Turning the other person off in short order.

It’s a subtle difference when you’re looking at it, but you can see how much more effective a choke can be with just a little rotation. Watch for this the next time you see a fighter go for a choke!
