Joe Rogan Blows Up Over CM Punk Fighting in UFC

It’s worth pointing out that Brock Lesnar was a legitimate signing for the UFC. While pro wrestling haters were opposed to it, Lesnar’s freakish athleticism and strong wrestling background (remember, he was a two-time Division I All-American and the 2000 Div I Heavyweight Champion) easily should have let him walk into the UFC from day 1.
In Rogan’s defense, though, he’s right that CM Punk’s taking a one-of-a-kind and logic-defying path into the UFC. The issue with Punk isn’t the fact that he’s a wrestler. It’s that he’s a wrestler with no actual combat sports background of any kind. WWE wrestlers like Jack Swagger, Baron Corbin and Wade Barrett all have combat sports experience (in NCAA wrestling, boxing and bareknuckle boxing, respectively) could reasonably walk into the UFC today but Punk has literally been training for under two years now.

But of course, it doesn’t matter what Rogan says, the UFC has signed CM Punk and he’s going to fight. The more interesting thing is that Rogan continues to take issue with what the UFC is doing. It feels more and more likely by the day that he’s set to walk away from MMA commentary.
