Cena is 38 years old today, and will turn 39 not too long after WrestleMania 32. While he probably won’t end up going full cold turkey on the WWE, it doesn’t feel like it would be all that surprising if Cena ended up going down the part-time path.
The WWE is clearly more open to the idea of part-time wrestlers than it used to be, with Brock Lesnar, Sting, the Undertaker and (probably again soon) the Rock all taking top billing on cards over recent years while only working a few nights on the calendar. Cena could easily end up among that lot in the near future, and that day is likely to come sooner than later, given his age.
Yeah, he can’t pull this off anymore…
It’s entirely likely that Cena leaves after Hell in a Cell and returns before the Royal Rumble. That said, don’t be too surprised if you don’t see him working every single RAW, and a bunch of house shows after that.
MITB is a great way to develop young talent. Or force Cena back into the main event picture.
