Gabi Garcia is Still a Beast

Gabi Garcia remains the MMA world’s Chyna (except without the self-destructive habits) and posted another dominant win over another hopeless opponent. Destanie Yarbrough (not related to late UFC pioneer Emanuel Yarborough), a women’s football pro, was taken to the ground with little difficulty. Unsurprisingly, the fight ended not long after via SCARY keylock. Notes:

  • Gabi continues to walk the line between “freakshow attraction” and “legitimately talented fighter”. The company clearly isn’t handling her as a legit fighter, but it’s hard to do so when she’s such a unique commodity.
  • Don’t let that fool you, though. She’s one of the best pure grapplers in MMA today. Her submission game is absolutely awesome.
  • Tough to guess what they’ll do with her next. There are no names above 155 pounds for her, and the company will probably have to find another non-fighter for her to rough up.

The Best of the Rest

  • Kron Gracie, the official main eventer, looked great. Granted, this wasn’t a stiff fight, but we’ve seen so many awful Gracie fights over the years that it’s nice to see SOMEBDOY do alright.
  • Baruto Kaito, the sumo wrestler, had a not-great effort against Kazuyuki Fujita. Fujita has long been one of MMA’s foremost jobbers, and Baruto looked silly throwing wide slaps that tired himself out. He won by unanimous decision…but still. Ugly.
  • The best fighter on the card may have been Kanako Murata. An accomplished freestyle wrestler from Japan, she put a hurting on Kyra Batara to take a great unanimous decision win.
