The Only 2015 MMA Awards Worth Reading

MMA

2015 is almost done, and with that, it is time to start handing out the greatest honor in the history of MMA: The Fightstate Awards for Excellence (or Terribleness) in MMA. It was a fun year where we saw some of the biggest names in the sports get toppled, and other stars rise to take their place.

But of course, we’re not here to tell you the “good” moments or the “bad” moments. We’re here to tell you the best and the worst of the year. So let’s be about it!

Dana White Award for Biggest Fuckin’ Goof: Reebok

I mean, duh, right? The Reebok deal has been defined by incompetence, unfairness and laziness. From the very beginning, it was obvious to MMA fans that Reebok had no real knowledge of MMA, its fighters, its culture or its history. Worse, they quickly showed that they were not at all interested in fixing that. The result has been embarrassment after embarrassment. One day, business students will be reading case studies about this.

Honorable Mention: Former WSOF Executive Ali Abdelaziz

Gary Goodridge Award for Most Brutal Finish: Kimbo Slice Murders Ken Shamrock

There were some crazy headkicks and some bloody choke-outs, but it rarely gets more brutal than a 51 year-old man getting beaten unconscious by one of the harder punchers in the sport today. No, Kimbo Slice isn’t a great fighter by any stretch of the imagination, but the dude still punches super hard and watching him beat down an old man like that was tough to watch. Both dudes get back into action in February though (Slice against Dada 5000, Shamrock against Royce Gracie), so that’s something to look forward to!

Honorable Mention: Hisaki Kato superman punches Joe Schilling
