So that was fast. Conor McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo cold in just 13 seconds.
The action was set to start hot and heavy, with Aldo and McGregor jumping in at the same time. Both men landed left hands at the same time, but while Aldo popped McGregor hard in the eye, McGregor connected clean to the chin. Aldo went down immediately, crashing to the mat. McGregor landed a couple of clean punches and that, as they say, was that.
Conor McGregor is now the unified featherweight champion and that should be incredibly fun. Aldo, unfortunately, is left to try and figure out how things went wrong.
Choo-Choo… all about the hype train!
The Conor McGregor hype train has just had rockets added to it, and it’s blasting off into space. Conor has defeated Jose Aldo and has unified the Featherweight belts. Nobody can say his belt is fake anymore. Conor simultaneously was one of the most hyped fighters, and also one of the most doubted. Now he’s neither, he’s proven himself as the real deal in his light-fast climb up the ranks.
What’s next for Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo?
After putting on the biggest fight in featherweight history, we’ll no doubt see these two crossing paths again. Jose is still young, but he’s got a ton of mileage on him in fight years. Every great champion has that moment where they just aren’t quite themselves anymore, but time will tell whether this was the turning point for Aldo or just an off-night.
An immediate rematch is completely possible, but so too is the UFC protecting McGregor and giving him a fight in Croke Park against sombody like Max Holloway, who is a better fit for McGregor stylistically. We shall see. Either way, MMA fans are in for a fun ride with McGregor as UFC champ.
