Face It: Weidman Is The Truth

Articles

Chris Weidman proved himself in a big way at UFC175. Strange that the Champion who has beaten the greatest fighter of all time twice in a row still needed to prove himself, but in the eyes of some fans that was the case. Weidman was up for the challenge.

If being able to completely neutralize Lyoto Machida for the first 3 rounds, and being able to survive his pressure later in the fight doesn’t endere Weidman to the doubters, nothing will. Even the people who were most sour about how the Weidman vs Silva fights ended have to admit that he looked spectacular against Lyoto.

 Just Getting Started

There’s still a whole division full of hungry fighters looking to get their crack at the belt. Vitor will likely get the next shot at Weidman, and does anyone not have Weidman as a favorite for that fight all things considered? Then there’s Jacare, Rockhold and Tim Kennedy who could all make the case for a title shot. Mousasi could string a couple wins together for a shot as well.

Middleweight is going to be exciting as hell for the foreseeable future. Sometimes it takes a long-standing champion to lose their belt to really shake things up, and now that it’s impossible to deny that Weidman is the top dog, it’s onwards and upwards. Of course, there’s always the possibility of a 3rd fight against Anderson Silva but we’d hate to see that go the same way that BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar 3 went.
