Ain’t that something? Chandler’s title doesn’t necessarily mean much, since Bellator has had two lightweight champions signed away by the UFC in Will Brooks and Eddie Alvarez. Still, he’s a legit top-10 fighter and could rebuild the division before long.
The other big knockout came in the kickboxing portion of the card. The main event was Hisaki Kato vs. Joe Schilling, who faced off in an MMA bout last year with Kato scoring a shocking upset win over with a superman punch knockout. The expectation was for Schilling to get his win back in a kickboxing match (because Schilling is a real kickboxer, unlike Kato) but, alas, he came up short yet again and yet again got knocked out. Yeah, Schilling was basically dead before he hit the ground.
While it wasn’t a great night of combat sports, these were two knockout of the year candidates. That’s something, right?
