Canelo Alvarez tells Gennady Golovkin 155 lbs or no fight.

Canelo has made it very clear he has no intentions of moving up to 160lbs and has given GGG a message. “If he wants to fight with me, let him come down to 155 and I’ll fight him whatever day he wants,” said Canelo recently.

Saul Canelo Alvarez does seem to have some concerns about facing the undefeated middleweight boxer Gennady Golovkin. Hearing a boxer talk past a fight always gives me concerns. Canelo faces Miguel Cotto on November 21 but is already looking past that fight with Cotto and looking at GGG.

The Mexican redhead has made it very clear that he believes his one and only loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. was due to moving away from his natural weight. He sounds determined not to make the same mistake twice.

There have been many mentions of ‘middleweight’ fights between Canelo, Cotto and Golovkin but it seems not many will actually take place at 160lbs. With Canelo and Cotto being set to a catchweight at 155lbs and now this, we look set to see these catchweight’s continue for a while.

The winner of the Canelo/Cotto fight will have 15 days to agree to face Golovkin or the WBC will strip them of their belt.

Canelo says it’ll be 1 to 2 more years until we will see him at 160lbs.
“At this moment, my body isn’t ready for 160 pounds. Maybe 1 or 2 more years I’ll be ready for 160, I don’t know, but I’d be delighted to fight someone like Gennady. He’s a great fighter and I think it would be a great fight. I’d be delighted to get him in a fight,”

Expect a few delays and drama’s in coming months! It seems, if we want the big fights these days, they will take a while to materialise.
