Jose Aldo Battling A Knee Injury That Might Force Him Out Of UFC 237

Jose Aldo turned up for a press conference yesterday (Thursday March 28) to promote the UFC 237. However, he may not be able to fight in the promotion due to a knee injury which as been giving him some problems healing.




In an interview with the press Aldo spoke of the issue with this knee, not responding to medical treatment. In particular, the antibiotic medication he had initially been prescribed is not working well for the former champion. The goodnews however is that Aldo is now on some new meds that he hopes will be more effective for him.

Aldo Feeling Positive

During the interview Aldo seem positive that these new meds will work. Should that happen he will fight in May at UFC 237. But should is the operative word here there is no definate conclusion from Aldo via his interpreter or his medical team clearing him to fight at the moment.

It Really A Wait and See Game

“I went to the hospital on Wednesday and they wanted me to stay for one night to take antibiotics,” Aldo told reporters, after the press conference at Copacabana Palace hotel in Brazil. “Then, the next day the antibiotics didn’t work, only on Friday when they changed it. At that moment, it did go through my mind that I might not be able to fight. I thought I was practically out.

“I’m not even saying I’m in yet. I can’t confirm that because I still have a medical evaluation to do. If the doctor lets me, I’m in. But we sent the video of the puncture they did on my knee, we sent it to (UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby), so everyone knows what’s happening.

The former champion was excited when he learn that UFC 237 would be held in Rio, so much so he personally requested to be on the card for the event.

“When the UFC moved from (original target city) Curitiba to here, the minute I knew I sent a message to (UFC president Dana White), and he confirmed me on the card,” Aldo said. “So I’m doing everything I can to be able to fight here.”
