This was Fedor’s 40th professional MMA fight, and his opponent’s third. They gave his opponent, Singh Jaideep, a fight in October after announcing that he would be fighting Fedor to try to pad his record a bit, because 2-0 looks twice as good as 1-0! Now it’s 2-1, but there’s no shame in losing to one of the greatest fighters to ever step inside the ring.
The downside is that with Fedor crushing a can, we don’t really get to see how he would look against top-level competition, which is what everybody wants to see. This was clearly a tune-up fight, so hopefully we’ll get a chance to see Fedor against a more evenly-matched opponent in 2016. Or, it might just be about a payday and not about fighting the sport’s best competition, and you can’t really blame him for that either.
Rizin was hoping to re-capture the magic of Pride, and they really didn’t do a bad job for their first event. There were all sorts of weird spectacles, freak show fights, ref cams, complete mismatches, and even a fight or two that looked totally thrown – so Japanese MMA is alive and well, it appears.
But you’re here to watch Fedor demolish his opponent, so check out this clip:
