5 Amazing Fighters That UFC Should Boost As Superstars

3. Robert Whittaker

Robert Whittaker at UFC

In the cluttered and somewhat stagnant middleweight division, Robert Whittaker – 26 – has emerged as one of the best fighters on the planet at 185 pounds. With a run of 8 consecutive wins including 4 finishes, Whittaker recently scored a victory over dangerous Yoel Romero at UFC 213 last July, and won the interim belt. If it had not been because in the fight with Romero he ended up with an injury, then it would have been him and not GSP who should have faced Michael Bisping in UFC 217.

However, it does not matter that GSP has snatched the title to Bisping, Whittaker is Interim Champion and must fight against the Canadian for the unification of the belts. If Whittaker beats GSP, or if St-Pierre vacates the title, then Whittaker will be promoted to undisputed champion.

Whittaker is a balanced fighter and is exciting to watch, and if he continues to beat the best of the middleweight division, then ‘The Reaper’ could prove to be a well-known name in a sport that desperately seeks a new star.
