UFC’s Scott Jorgensen Gets Bad Head

Articles

Scott Jorgensen is appealing his recent loss to Formiga in which an illegal headbutt quickly turned the tides of the fight, which ended moments later with a choke. The problem is that the headbutt stunned Jorgensen, who didn’t get any time to recover before immediately being submitted. Here’s how it went down in Jorgensen’s own words…

“He jumps in, clips me with a head butt, I drop, and then wake up in a rear-naked choke. It’s bullshit, I’m pissed…. I don’t think it was intentional. Accidental or not, it dropped me. I’d love to see it turned to a no contest.”

Jorgensen is reportedly looking to appeal the decision, perhaps to have the fight ruled as a no contest rather than a loss. It’s unlikely that this will matter at all, since it’s very rare for the athletic commission to overtune a decision or to admit any kind of mistake. The Brazilian commission has already said that without a formal complaint, they won’t even look at it – so Jorgensen is likely going to file that complaint.

This most recent loss, although debatable, puts Jorgensen in a pretty rough situation with only 1 win in his last 6 outings. He’s fought some of the very top guys in Faber, Barao, Cruz, Wineland… Despite a string of losses, Jorgensen was the favorite heading into this fight.

Here’s what his opponent, Formiga, had to say…

“I don’t think it was a head butt,” said Formiga in his native tongue of Portuguese. “I think it was like a counter blow. I think when I came in, I did some movement, but it wasn’t like head-to-head. It was my head against his chest, and he ended up falling on his back. Then I took the opportunity and went to his back. Everything worked out, and I was able to submit him.”

… Okay.
