Ronda Rousey’s Coach Reveals Who She Would Fight in her Comeback

Articles

Edmond is making headlines again. Ronda’s controversial coach has said that if Ronda Rousey were to make a comeback to MMA, and that the odds of that happening are about 50/50, that there’s only one person she would fight… and it’s the person that we’ve all been waiting for her to fight all along.

Edmond said that if Ronda were to fight again, that her opponent would be Cris Cyborg. Fans have been waiting for Ronda to fight Cyborg since before Ronda was even in the UFC. We’ve seen how Ronda does against decent strikers, however, and her past two bouts haven’t gone that well, and unless she’s really worked on her standup in the past year or two, it’s hard to imagine things going that well against Cris. Granted, before that, people were pretty much split on who they thought would win between Cyborg and Ronda.

Cyborg’s just a big, strong, and powerful… Ronda would need to get in there and work in close to get the takedown, and that leaves her open to getting rocked by Cyborg’s cannon of an arm.

“That’s the one,” Edmond Tarverdyan said. “I want that fight. When I trained Ronda, I know Ronda could beat Cyborg. I know that. Cyborg is too slow.”

But it turns out that Cyborg isn’t really interested anymore, and she shot down the fight in a very savage way:

“If Ronda wants to come back for a fight,” Cyborg said, “I believe it’s better for her to fight Miesha Tate. I’m in another stage of my career. I wanted to fight Ronda when she was psychologically well and confident.”

However, Cyborg is open to meeting Ronda over in WWE, which would be kind of interesting to see as a consolation prize, I guess.
