Magomedov joins about a dozen fighters who have been flagged for various banned substances including former 145 pound challenger Chad Mendes, longtime lightweight gate keeper Gleison Tibau, former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and longtime light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Worth noting is that we don’t have any clue at all what Magomedov failed a drug test for at this point. The USADA banned substance list includes many things, ranging from hardcore anabolic steroids to human growth hormone to non-performance enhancer 7 keto DHEA to certain anti-psoriasis skin creams. The initial announcement by USADA and the UFC, as is customary, does not shed any light onto what he failed the drug test for.

Because USADA is too stupid to have the capacity for nuance, however, Magomedov’s punishment is likely already decided. There’s a high likelihood he will receive a two-year ban, whether he failed a drug test for drostanolone or Clinical Strength Head and Shoulders.

USADA stinks, people. That isn’t to say we here at Fight State want fighters to compete dirty, but we want transparency and we want logical punishments for failed drug tests!
