Many top-level fighters will admit to feeling fear before a fight. It’s a natural human reaction to combat. 

Matthew Thorn is a 45 year old bare knuckle boxer who wants nothing more than to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps by winning a championship belt. He trains MMA and traditional boxing, but bareknuckle is his first love. He says that hitting someone while wearing gloves is like wearing pillows on your hand, so he prefers the raw and natural power of bareknuckle boxing.

Over 12 years ago, he underwent a simple surgery to remove an abscess from his spine. It really shouldn’t have been a big deal, but the anesthetist screwed up the mixture. When Matthew woke up, all he could hear was a loud, wretched buzzing sound. He hears this sound all the time, it never goes away. All day, all night, his head is filled with this loud noise. He can’t escape it.
