Sage Northcutt is the latest guy to make it into the UFC. He’s undefeated as a professional, he’s a karate champion, and if fighting doesn’t work out he could start a second career singing pop songs to legions of adoring girls.
He wasn’t signed to the UFC for his boyish good looks or his chisled physique, he’s actually one of the top rookies that the UFC has had in ages, people are comparing him to a young Rory MacDonald. The recent trend in UFC signings is to go after fighters when they’re still younger, before other organizations have a chance to snap them up, rather than letting them develop some more first.
Sage doesn’t spar leading up to his fights, and so far it’s been working. That’ll keep his chin intact and lead to more longevity in the fight game.
Before MMA, he was already a notable figure in the world of martial arts. He started training at the age of 5, and was a blackbelt karateka by 8. He’s a karate and kickboxing champion.
He was ripped before he even turned 13.
When he’s not scrapping, he’s had plenty of modelling gigs and even did some physique competitions (The shorts mean that you don’t have to train legs.)
