Sage Northcutt Chokes Out Cody Pfister for His Second UFC Win

MMA

Dana White’s boy toy continues looking great in the UFC. Sage Northcutt stepped into the cage with Cody Pfister at UFC Fight Night 80 and the results are basically exactly what the UFC wanted.

The first round saw Pfister take down Northcutt early, landing some solid ground and pound while working for guard passes. While Northcutt tried to tie him up and force a referee stand-up, a la Pride rules, Pfister was content in just landing soft punches and elbows from the top. The stand-up eventually did come and Northcutt immediately shot for a takedown of his own. Northcutt quickly started landing some brutal elbows and looked for an arm triangle and armbar, but the end of the round came before he could make a serious submission attempt.

In the second round, Northcutt shot for another takedown but Pfister stuffed it. Northcutt came out on top in a scramble though and got to work on a guillotine. Pfister tried to explode out of the position, but that made the choke even tighter, forcing him to tap.

It’s no secret that the UFC is getting behind Northcutt in a big way. Even though he is just 19 years old and has under 10 professional fights, Dana White’s uncontrollable man crush got him a huge push. With just one UFC fight to his name, he has been plastered on posters, been put front and center in front of the media and been given preferential spots on cards.

How many legit, ranked fighters don't get the full media treatment at fights?

How many legit, ranked fighters don’t get the full media treatment at fights? Sage Northcutt, though? He’s A-list after a win over FRANCISCO “Fatty Refshove McWeedsmoker” TREVINO.

Not bad, considering Dana White probably doesn’t even remember who Raphael Assuncao or Dong-Hyun Kim are.

Obviously, a win over Cody Pfister doesn’t really do that much for Sage’s career as a whole, but this was the kind of win that the UFC was looking for. Pfister was just 1-1 in the UFC entering this fight, with his win coming over Yosdenis Cedeno and his loss came from James Moontasri.

Northcutt said he wanted another fight in the coming months. We’ll see if he gets it.
