Respect The Legends – Igor Vovchancyn

Videos

Respect the Legends is a new series we’re debuting that is all about shining the spotlight on the killers of yesteryear. With today’s social media news cycle and short attention spans, newer fans of the sport are inundated with banalities like what Conor McGregor ate for lunch rather than an appreciation for the guys that laid the groundwork for mixed martial arts as we know it today. They put their well-being on the line in a time where soccer kicks to the head of a downed opponent were normal and the contracts specifically said that fighters would not be tested for steroids. Also say what you want about fighter pay today, it’s not like any of these legends were banking except for the big name guys in Pride.

Igor “Ice Cold” Vovchanchyn had his first three professional fights on October 14th, 1995. His next four fights took place on November 25th, 1995 with two of them being against the same guy (Adilson Lima). Throughout his ten year career, Igor stepped into the ring opposite guys like Cro Cop, Ovareem, Rampage, and Coleman. Some of his notable wins include victories over Mark Kerr, Enson Inoue, Sakuraba, Goodridge, and plenty more that would add to his 55-10 record before he hung up the gloves in 2005.
