Oscar De La Hoya Calls Dibs on Ronda Rousey’s Boxing Debut

At this point, Rousey can really do whatever she wants. The UFC actively tries to prevent fighters from becoming brands unto themselves, which has led to the promotion feuding with almost every former fighter with mainstream appeal, from Randy Couture to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to Tito Ortiz.

Rousey, however, is too big for the UFC to order around at this point and she’s too popular for the UFC to sue. If Rousey really, really wants to get into boxing…she’ll do it, and the UFC will pretty much be powerless to stop her. The same goes for if she wants to go into the WWE and win the Diva’s title.

While Rousey is an incredibly compelling mixed martial artist, it’s hard not to want to see her spread her wings and go for it in the WWE and boxing world. If she does, De La Hoya and Vince McMahon will be seeing dollar signs for a very, very long time.
