Old man strength is a real thing, and when you combine it with the kind of clean boxing technique that comes from years upon decades of teaching students, you get a scary package that can rough up even seasoned opposition. A great example of that popped up on YouTube recently, of a 60 year old coach putting a whoopin’ on one of his students. Check it out:
The two men get into the ring and the young boxer clearly gives no respect to the old man who is competing wearing sweat pants and a genuine grandpa sweater. He starts off by laughing at the camera before backpedaling and flicking some jabs.
The old guy, though, is taking this serious, and starts charging forward, hitting him with a right to the body before switching to a left up top. The left lands hard and the boxer is wobbly. He tries to spin off the ropes, but is off balance and drops his hand, which invites the old man to tag him with a big right hand to the body, followed by a lead left hook.
The hook catches the boxer clean to the chin, sending him flying backwards. He pops back up and the old man stays all over him, continuing to pump hands and landing two more big rights. The boxer stays upright, and waves it off, and the old man graciously backs off. Remarkably, the boxer isn’t completely knocked out after all this, but he is clearly worse for wear after eating so many punches.
It’s not known where this video was actually shot, and we have no clue whether the boxer was anybody legit or if the old man was actually some battle-hardened throwback from the days when boxers would have 70-round fights.
Either way, if you’re a boxer, make sure you don’t get on the bad side of the old man trainer.
