There are echoes of Anderson Silva when you watch Michael Page’s striking, except Page is like that all the time – it’s his default. Page is an English kickboxer who has only been fighting MMA since 2012, and he is relatively untested, so we don’t really know how his shenanigans are going to hold up against top-tier opponents, but none the less he’s still super fun to watch. He’s been described as “Bellator’s Jon Jones”, but it’s really much too early for that. He has said that Silva is one of his favorite fighters to watch, and it’s clearly rubbed off on him.
With such a flashy and cocky style, you are always going to have a mass of people just waiting for you to get dropped, but so far Michael Page is undefeated in MMA, but only has one Bellator fight under his belt. His second Bellator fight is coming up shortly, on October 10th against Nah-Shon Burrell. They’re obviously taking their time to build him slowly, but if Michael “Venom” Page is the real deal it will be huge for Bellator, who have been turning to WWE-style antics and relying on washed-up former UFC fighters and desperately need an exciting, big-name fighter who can put on a good show.
