In some ways, it is par for the course for Reigns. While the former Georgia Tech defensive tackle has long been on the fast track to pro wrestling stardom, fans have rejected him at every opportunity.
His win in the 2015 Royal Rumble match was brutally booed by the fans in attendance, and the WWE’s active confiscating of signs and doctoring of broadcasts haven’t made fans forget that they don’t actually like him very much. Even in his current rivalry against Wyatt (who has been actively tormenting him through his family), Reigns has failed to resonate with fans.
The WWE is hoping to get fans to warm up to him en route to a title push by reuniting him with ol’ pal (and actual fan favorite) Dean Ambrose and have been leaning on old tropes used by The Shield. We’ll see if the fans will bend to the WWE’s wishes and cheer for the posterboy-in-the-making.
