We’ve talked about Rousimar Palhares a lot over the last few years here at Fightstate.com and rightly so. On the one hand, the man is probably the greatest submission expert in MMA today, possibly in MMA history. While it isn’t a scientific comparison, just look at how Demian Maia vs. Jon Fitch panned out compared to Palhares vs. Fitch. Maia took a three-round decision off the former UFC contender, while Palhares tapped him with a kneebar in 90 seconds.
On the other hand…the dude is the dirtiest fighter in the game, and by a substantial margin. At this moment, he is suspended from competing in the United States due to trying to gouge out Jake Shields’ eyes during their fight at WSOF 22, and was suspended twice prior to that for repeatedly holding onto submissions after the referee attempted to break the hold.
And that’s just in-competition, in MMA! Numerous past opponents in BJJ tournaments and training partners in the gym have since gone on record labeling him a dirty fighter and somebody who deliberately tries to hurt anyone he rolls with.
That makes it incredibly funny that he is currently complaining about his opponent, and saying that he is the dirty one…
