Tell me if you’ve heard this one before. Rousimar Palhares scored an impressive submission win…and refused to let it go. Against former Strikeforce (and EliteXC…and Shooto) champ Jake Shields, Palhares locked up a brilliant Kimura, and kept on twisting it as Shields tapped and referee Steve Mazagatti politely stood by to see how things went. Palhares has a long history of actively trying to destroy limbs, but this incident with Shields easily ranks among the most heinous. Before the submission, Palhares repeatedly poked, scratched, thumbed and raked Shields’ eyes while attempting to escape Shields’ wrestling. Mazzagatti, widely (and rightly) regarded as one of the worst referees in MMA issued multiple warnings but took no real action to stop it.

Jake Shields’ manager Tareq Azim wants Rousimar permanently banned from fighting. Jake Shields’ wants Rousimar stripped of the belt, and says he’d also like the opportunity to kick him in the balls.
World Series of Fighting executive Ali Abdelaziz alluded to the fact they’re going to take some action. He also said the commission has withheld Palhares’ win bonus while they investigate.

Palhares claims he’s not a dirty fighter. Here’s what he had to say to MMAFighting.com :
“I just protected myself, He put his head on my nose. I just put my hand there to protect myself. I did not put my fingers in his eyes. You can see it at the time. I did not hold his arm after the tap. The ref said to me before the fight, ‘just go out there, if I put my hand on you, stop.’ And when he put his hand on me, I stopped. I stopped. Sometimes in the fight, it’s hard, it’s difficult to feel something. When I felt it, I stopped.”
