Conor McGregor Just Made a Female NYPD Officer Cry

Articles

Conor McGregor is a man of the people, despite his schtick about how rich and successful he is, at the end of the day he remembers where he started from and he hasn’t lost sight of the fans who helped him get to where he is now.

There are two Conor McGregors. There’s the persona in interviews and press conferences that sells fights, and then there’s a humble kid from Ireland who has scratched and clawed his way to the top. Not only did he make it to the top, he went further and created a new top.

While in New York preparing for his upcoming fight at UFC 205, Conor McGregor ran into a police officer who also happened to be a huge fan of his. She compared the moment of meeting him to the birth of her kids, and was moved to tears by the opportunity to meet someone she was so fond of.

Have you ever met one of your heroes? How did you react? It’s an interesting meeting because Conor gets a lot of guff from about half of MMA fans (He’s polarizing, people love him or hate him) and the NYPD has certainly had some public relations issues of their own over the years – but at the end of the day, we’re all people, and it’s never good to lump everyone in together.

When you have as much Irish pride as Conor does, it’s got to be cool to run into your fellow countrymen and women when you’re on the other side of the world, and to take a moment to make their day and to give them a memory they’ll never forget. Props to Conor, and to the brave men and women in law enforcement who are all doing their best.

You can catch Conor on the UFC Embedded series on Youtube, and on November 12th when he squares off against Eddie Alvarez for the 155lb championship belt. If he is victorious, Conor will become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts at the same time.

He can’t overlook Eddie, tho, who took the belt from RDA. RDA has looked like an absolute monster lately (And not just because he kinda looks like the monster from Frankenstein). It’s going to be an amazing fight at the top of an incredibly stacked card.

Have your say

Should police officers get extensive training in MMA? We’v’e seen fighters training with marines before, and a lot of fighters have military experience, and of course there’s Cro Cop, but what about an actual program that’s mandatory for all police officers to complete? We’re not saying they should be out there throwing hands and boxing if it’s avoidable, but what about getting some cops to 10th Planet to study BJJ? Plenty of police officers do martial arts training on their own, but it could be useful if it was a part of the core curriculum. Just make sure you give Eddie Bravo a heads up before a bunch of cops show up to his gym…
