You can’t bring up Vitor Belfort’s name without a cavalcade of people chiming in to remind you that he’s tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in the past. When Vitor fights in Brazil, he gets an exception for testosterone replacement therapy but it’s unclear whether or not he would receive that same nod in the States, making his upcoming fight against Chris Weidman for the belt a very interesting proposition. A big part of the controversy over Vitor’s TRT usage is that it probably wouldn’t’ be necessary, meaning he wouldn’t have lowered testosterone that requires treatment, if he didn’t slam so many roids earlier in his career. Thankfully, this is MMA and you don’t have to pay the piper under current rules – if you cheated in the past, no worries, you can keep using drugs to bring you up to the same level as the guys who were all-natural their entire careers.
Like a Kick To The Head
We’ve all seen the clip of Vitor Belfort getting decisively destroyed and knocked out from a head kick delivered by Anderson Silva when they fought, which foreshadowed Vitor’s incredible 3-0 run in 2013, all victories earned Belfort Knockout of the Night via gruesome head kicks of his own. Now that Anderson is out of the picture, at least for now, it has finally opened up the door for Vitor to get another shot at the gold.
With that background information out of the way, here’s where things start to get really crazy.
Just prior to the announcement that Vitor is getting a much-deserved title shot against Weidman, it’s been revealed that he was randomly drug tested by the UFC after 168 along with the people who actually fought on the card. It’s not incredibly unusual for a fighter to get randomly tested, but it is rare for that to happen to a fighter that doesn’t even have their next match scheduled. It seems like the UFC and the Nevada State Athletic Commission wanted to get a head of what is certainly going to be a controversial issue. That’s not the weird part, though…
The really strange thing is the result of this random drug test. I never thought I would say this but: Vitor passed his drug test. What?! How is that even possible? We’ve got to tip our hats to the former champ, with one of the longest-running careers in the UFC out of all active fighters, nobody would have ever expected him to pass a random drug test months before his next fight. Perhaps we all owe him an apology, or the very least a little bit more respect for his upcoming fight against Weidman. But that doesn’t explain why he was stocking up on horse piss.

In unrelated news, it was reported last month that Vitor was arrested on a farm for trespassing. When authorities arrived, they found him in the stables collecting horse urine in plastic water bottles. Make of that what you will…
