The WWE has announced that with the title vacant, the upcoming Survivor Series pay per view event is being repurposed. Rather than the main event being a traditional Survivor Series match (either a 4-on-4 or 5-on-5 elimination tag match) between the Wyatt Family and a team led by The Undertaker, the event will focus on a tournament to determine who will fill the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
That’s not the first time WWE has done this. At Survivor Series 1998, also known as Survivor Series: Deadly Game, the WWF ran the same angle in one of the most important shows of the Attitude Era. The tournament would be defined by a heel turn by The Rock, which saw him align with Vince McMahon and win the tournament by defeating Big Boss Man, Ken Shamrock, The Undertaker and Mankind.
So who will be in the tournament? That’s an interesting discussion…
