You’ve gotta love Pride. While they were putting on some of the best MMA matchups in history, they always had room for a freakshow mismatch like the 600lb Emmanuel Yarborough (Who we’ve featured on our list of fattest fighters to ever compete) against Daiju Takase at Pride 3 which took place in the summer of 1998.




If you don’t know who Yarborough is, you might recognize him from UFC 3. If you don’t know who Takase is, he’s beaten Anderson Silva. Enough said.

The Pride era may be over, but we can still enjoy the memories. When the UFC started in the early ’90s, it answered a lot of questions that people had about how different martial arts would fare against other disciplines. Pride took it to the next level by answered questions that nobody’s ever even imagined, like how a small guy would fare against a sumo monster.

Wrestling is one of the best bases to have in MMA, and there are plenty of examples of a wrestler being able to grind out a win against someone who’s primarily a striker. Especially with such a huge size advantage…
