The UFC’s uniform deal with Reebok is…just…awful. Is there anybody out there that still disagrees? Well, if there is, they should probably hear what Vitor Belfort’s wife (and manager), Joana Prado, has to say.
According to Prado, who spoke with ESPN Brazil, Belfort has lost “millions of dollars” due to the Reebok deal and, at this point, is making so little money from actually fighting that setting foot into the cage is just a hobby. The interview comes hot on the heels of the announcement that 9ine Sports and Entertainment, a marketing firm owned by retired soccer star Ronaldo Nazario de Lima that worked with almost every major Brazilian MMA star (including Belfort, was pulling out of the UFC business due to the Reebok deal.
“9ine leaves the ‘UFC business’ while taking a stand as to what we believe is unfair to athletes, true warriors who make a living with MMA,” they said in a statement. “To them, we wish every success and wisdom to deal with the difficulties that lie ahead.”
