Professional MMA is banned in New York. It’s a shame for all the UFC fans out in the Empire State. It’s a shame for the fighters from New York who haven’t had the opportunity to fight in their hometowns. Oh, and of course it’s a shame for the UFC, who can’t make millions and millions of dollars there.

A few weeks ago, there was hope that things might change! The UFC, you see, had put down a deposit with the folks at Madison Square Garden and were hoping to hold UFC 198 (which was renamed to UFC 197 recently with UFC 196 being changed to UFC Fight Night 82) in the Big Apple. Unfortunately…that didn’t work out.

That’s because a New York judge threw out a lawsuit against the state from the UFC’s parent company, which is forcing the company to once again move out of the state. It’s a tough blow or the UFC and one that the UFC’s chief legal officer is already starting to maneuver around.
