UPDATE: So this morning Yoel Romero claims he mentioned nothing about gays, and everyone just misheard him because of his heavy accent. Apparently “Not For Gay Jesus” was “Not Forget Jesus” but damn did it sound like gay jesus. Status: plausible
“I want to say something. I try in English. So sorry if the people don’t understand me but I try. Hey! Hey U.S.A., hey Miami! Hey Florida! Listen people, listen, listen! Listen! What happened to you, U.S.A.? What happened to you? What’s going on? You forget the best of the best of the world, the name of Jesus Christ! What happened to you? Wake up, U.S.A.! Go, go back where you gone. Go for Jesus! No forget Jesus people!”
After he knocked out Lyota Machida at UFC FIGHT NIGHT SAT. JUN. 27, 2015 MACHIDA VS. ROMERO, Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero had some very choice words to say in his post fight octagon interview, “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, WAKE UP USA, GO BACK WHERE YOU GO. GO FOR JESUS, NOT FOR GAY JESUS PEOPLE.”
Apparently Yoel is not a fan of gay marriage, which is unusual, because his voice sounds like a scary gay Cuban DMX.
Taking a note from the nights fights, UFC Commentator Jon Anik utilized expert verbal jiu-jitsu to completely ignore the comment and move on with the interview. Not a great look for the UFC coming on the heels of the passage of a same-sex marriage bill in Congress.
