This Top Boxer Says He is Training For UFC Debut

MMA

Boxing vs. MMA is a rivalry as old as the sport itself. Heck, it even pre-dates modern-day MMA and stretches back to the days of the traveling circus hosting wrestling contests that may or may not have been fixed. And if you thought it was starting to wind down…well, I’m afraid I’ve got some BAD NEWS for you.

Another prominent boxer is discussing making a jump to MMA, and it has many people buzzing. The boxer in question is British welterweight and light welterweight champion Amir Khan. King Khan posted a few interesting tweets, which you can see here:

Is he legit? Well, maybe, but maybe not.

Khan most certainly a legit boxer, with a solid 31-4 record in his career. His most recent fight didn’t go well, getting knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in May, but he’s still regarded as the best overall talent in his weight class. That said, there aren’t too many great paydays available to him at this point, and a lucrative offer from an MMA promotion could get him aboard for a fight or two.

That offer probably wouldn’t come from the UFC, though. Khan is actually a major owner of India’s Super Fight League promotion, and he could fight there in an attempt to raise the promotion’s visibility.

Hopefully he ends up making the jump to MMA. He’s an exciting boxer and we could use more guys like him in the sport today.
