Rumble Johnson’s Coaches Reveal Real Reason They Abandoned Him After Fight

Articles

There were a lot of odd moments at last weekend’s UFC 210, and the most surprising was when Anthony “Rumble” Johnson announced his retirement.

It’s not often you see a top contender hang up their gloves when it seems like they’re in their prime, and this sparked a lot of speculation online, especially when Rumble’s coaches were nowhere to be found.

During the post-fight interview, Rumble was pleading for his coaches to come into the cage while he made the announcement, but they were nowhere to be found.

This lead to speculation that they were pissed at him for not following the game plan, or that they had a falling out, however one of Rumble’s coaches has since denied those claims and called people who believe them stupid.

In an interview on the MMA Hour, one of Rumble’s coaches, Henri Hooft, said he left the Octagon after the fight to go and grab another shirt from backstage, and then everything got chaotic and when he heard Rumble calling for him, he couldn’t make it back there in time.

That doesn’t explain why nobody else that Rumble was calling for was tehre, did they all run backstage to grab shirts? This is the first time we’ve ever seen this happen (Maybe you know another example?), a fighter’s whose coaches just seem to disappear after the fight.

Speculation was that it had to do with the fact that Rumble tried to wrestle and didn’t stick to the gameplan, but only his coaches know why they weren’t there. Some say they didn’t know he was going to retire, but Rumble clarified that his coaches were among the only people who knew.

There’s a lot of rumors and speculation floating around, so it’s best to just stick to what Rumble’s coaches say happened, and if Rumble isn’t pissed about it – we shouldn’t be either.

It was sad to see a legendary fighter in there hanging up his gloves, calling for his team and them being nowhere to be found, whatever the reason was, but according to Rumble’s team.. the reason they weren’t in the cage was because they left to go grab a t-shirt and couldn’t make it back in time.

NOTE: It’s worth pointing out that the loser usually gets interviewed second, which would give AJ’s team plenty of time to get back into the cage, so it seems like it’s just an unfortunate turn of events, and there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between them, so we can set those rumors to rest.
